No smoking

No smoking

I don’t understand what’s is in the mind of Vishal Bhardwaj while making this movie, neither do I understand the movie… but I love the movie

May be in this movie he is not intended to tell a story but he is just thinking… or rather smoking….. Because the movie is just like that the vague smoke this can be seen but doesn’t have a solid identity…. Or maybe he just wants to tell the feeling or give the experience of smoking.

Once One of my student had asked “Why do people smoke? What’s the pleasant experience they are getting by smoking?” and I said “I don’t know. Maybe I’ve to smoke one day to analyze the experience….” This movie is like that experience…

Smoking is only a kind of addiction, but there are a lot more and this movie can be seen as an representation of all those type of addiction. The most important thing is that getting addicted to anything is the most dangerous thing in one’s life… and you can not move on until and unless you yourself want to quit…..

This story is about an man who is chain smoker, he is immensely addicted to cigarettes and his life is getting ruined by this habit and his ego, everybody had tried to made him quit on it but he halted… and when his wife also left him then he finally decided to meet a baba for leaving this habit…. And once he is in grip of that baba and signed the contract there comes a lot of tormenting twist and turns in his life which render his life as hell and finally he left smoking but actually his soul was taken by baba….

The ending is strange and actually anybody coming out of hall don’t understand what happens, even I want to get an explanatory note or pravachan from the makers on it…. But despite of all the discrepancy I love the movie that’s the truth…. Its really difficult to give the reason why? May be it’s the insistence of the hero on his stand of not leaving the smoking despite of all his grievances or any other reason but this movie is close to my heart….

When he stands on his decision irrespective of the heavy destructions of his life, I feel his foolishness is just like me…. So I love to see this movie….

The music is another phenomenon aspect of the film… the song phook de and Jab bhi cigarette jalti hai is just amazing and believe me or not they are so sensuous that it seems as if your having cigarette in your hand and Kash laga is the ultimate song which predict the real philosophy of life…. Its not like that I am a huge fan of smoking but the songs are really good. Hats off to Gulzar Sahab and Vishal Bhardwaj. I would suggest for criticizing too you must see movie….
